Trans/Nonbinary Youth Inclusive Faith Leader Panel

A workshop session by Alex Haider-Winnett, Ramish Nadim, Kelsey Pacha MA, MDiv and Alyss Swanson
Advocates for Youth

The intersection of religion and gender identity can pose challenges for families who are engaged in faith traditions and seeking to support a gender-expansive young person. Risks for these families include potential alienation from their own faith community related to gender issues, difficulty managing internalized sexism/homophobia/transphobia from within a faith community and society at large, and dealing with the discomfort of various professionals who may lack the familiarity and cultural competence to respond to specific dilemmas the family and their gender creative clients face. Coming from unique faith traditions, Kelsey Pacha, Ramish Nadeem, and other faith leaders will come together to speak from their personal experiences of finding alignment between faith and gender. This panel discussion offers both conceptual considerations and practical approaches to working with families and youth who are engaged with faith traditions.
