Every Student Counts at California School for the Deaf: Past, Present, and Future

A workshop session by JAC Cook and Barbara White

JAC and Barbara White will share on California School for the Deaf in Fremont's journey in transforming the campus to be fully gender inclusive. When AB 1732 Law was pending, CSD made it a priority to quickly and seamlessly make gender neutral bathrooms possible. Several activities took place to ensure administration, staff, students understood what was expected to ensure gender inclusiveness. Now, CSD has gender neutral bathrooms in all departments, utilizes gender support plans for students and staff for as young as 3 years old to adults, fly the trans and the pride flags, has an intensive LGBTQ+ resource page on the CSD website and require LGBTQ+ yearly trainings. We are constantly evolving as we learn more of what is needed to be gender inclusive.
