Naomi Khalil is in her second year serving as the Deputy Executive Director of Equity, Advocay and Civil Rights in Detroit Public Schools Community District, after ten years of serving as Director of Instructional Equity for the Farmington Public Schools. In this work, Ms. Khalil leads a number of initiatives, including but not limited to: district diversity initiatives (student lead diversity program, activities for staff and parents, Social Justice training,); employee compliance with Civil Rights laws; grants coordinator; MTSS district coordinator; stakeholder advocacy projects, and district equity team lead.
In addition to her educational experience and diverse upbringing, Ms. Khalil has native fluency in Spanish and has lived and traveled extensively abroad. This vast experience, coupled with her own ethnic background and life experience, allows Ms. Khalil to bring a unique, yet powerful perspective to the world of diversity work. She is a board member of MOASH (Michigan Organiztion for Adolescent Sexual Health) and trained Gender Spectrum facilitator. She is an agent of racial and social justice, civic literacy and civic engagement, and leads both students and adults on a journey of self-discovery as they explore their own words and action in relationship to others. Her life’s passion is to celebrate unity through diversity, and she is always willing to push status quo in order to help us live into that passion.
