Dr Julia Cartaya completed medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2008, pediatric residency at St Louis Children's Hospital of Washington University in St Louis in 2011 and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children in 2015, where she started her learning about caring for transgender youth. She subsequently worked with Dr Ximena Lopez at Children's Medical Center Dallas in the GENder Education and Care Interdisciplinary Support (GENECIS) clinic. She then moved to Cleveland Clinic Children's and now is the Medical Director of the GUIdE Clinic (Gender, Understanding, Identity and Expression) at Cleveland Clinic Children's.
